Elephant Bells, Set of Six (6), White
This is a wonderful set of six graduated solid brass Elephant Bells. These quality bells feature decorative raised floral designs surrounding the outside. The upper half of each bell is highlighted by intricate cloisonné-like coloring. Swinging the bells in gentle circles allows the clapper to roll over and strike the interior of the bell's many tines. The bell creates a soft sustaining chime-like tone that is very pleasing to the ear.
The bells are cast in factories in a small town known as Jalesar, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This area is well known for it's fine brass work. Then the cloisonné-like coloring is applied in the nearby town of Moradabad.
Traditionally these heavy brass Elephant Bells serve the purpose of decorating the elephants used in the colorful festival processions in India. When not on parade, the bells are placed around the elephants' necks so that their Mahouts can locate the beasts as they forage in the jungles.
