Vitchitra Veenas are played to accompany vocals or other instruments. There are four main, or melody strings. Vitchitra Veena strings are numbered 1-4 from the side opposite the sympathetic, toward the sympathetic. The main Vitchitra Veena strings are tuned: F C G C or sometimes G C G C. The 2nd Vitchitra Veena string is considered the main string for the tone of the Vitchitra Veena.
